Perking up the Pampas...

Colin gave the pampas grasses their annual trim this afternoon.

All went well with the first couple, using the electric cutters to cut away the unsightly old growth....

The next one is smaller and it was easier to use the hedge shears than  move the electic ones. Colin cut away the old growth and then raked out the debris from the centre.

However, it wasn't just vegetation he was moving. Right in the centre was a hibernating hedgehog!! As soon as he realised what had happened he covered the hedgehog over with the cut grasses, to try and make it secure again..

But so worried was he about the animals plight that he has set up the wildlife camera to see if it moves from what was its bed for the winter... We'll have to wait and see....

We are warned to check for hedgehogs before lighting bonfires but we've never heard a warning to check pampas grass before trimming!

I'd best have a gentle rummage in my pampas and see what's there!

Really glad that you noticed the poor guy. I have a strange allergy to pampas in bloom so my nose thanks you for the hair cut.

Given that the so-called correct way to "do a pampas" is to burn it...
your little hedge-pig was very lucky that you shape yours...

How about making a hedgehog house... plans available on t'interweb... and filling it with some dried pampas trimmings...
it might make your work easier next year...

Lovely!
And a lucky hedgehog, too.
