Compost...

Last October we blogged about leaves and more leaves and our newly created large compost bin... Shown here.

We initially had the top covered with some old planks but all that was happening was in fact nothing!!! The leaves just stayed as leaves and did not look like ever turning to compost. So early on in the winter we removed all the planks and left the bin open to the elements.

Its surprising what a difference that has made and with  forking it over a couple of times, the addition of our green household waste and the help of all the rain we have been having, it has done its stuff...

We now have a large bin of very usable compost which is intended for use on the potager and given the poor showing of our potatoes this year, it needs it... However it does appear to be vanishing... and reappearing at the base of Elizabeth's roses...

How do you lock up a compost bin ???

Bag it up and hide it, Colin?
Or suggests she buys a bag of Strulch to mulch round the roses? [http://www.topterre.fr/] Some of Yorkshire's finest mulch... now available locally in Indre-et-Loire.

Hi Colin and Elizabeth,

Despite your mixed parentage and as a pure bred Yorkie (and the importer of Strulch to France) I just thought you might wish to have a sample of Strulch to try - money spinner indeed you cheeky monkeys!
Have a good weekend,

Martin
