Day Two of the Journees du Patrimoine 2013

Today proved a much better day for visiting any of the varied places open as part of the Journees du Patrimonie 2013.

We chose Château de Chavigny, at Lerné about 12 kilometres south west of Chinon, and we certainly weren't disappointed. In addition to what remains of the Château there was a Vide Jardin held in what was the moat and entertainment!

The walk up to the Château was through pleasant park land..

The Vide Jardin... Elizabeth bought a small Plumbago plant and two glass multiholed flower bud vases.

The entertainment was provided by 'Les Grooms' and an entertainment troupe called Les Saltimres.

What remains of the Château is limited...

This is what it looked like in its hay-day

What does remain gives an indication to some of its former glory

The impressive farm complex remains in total but this was not open to public inspection, although you could walk through the courtyard.

It all made for a very pleasant afternoon outing which we enjoyed immensely.

On our way home we also visited the 12 century church in the village of Lerné also open today. More about that on another day!
