Untidy Pad or What...

Back in March I made a couple of open fronted nest boxes. See here.

Well it appears we have recently had some takers for the deluxe pad under the eaves above our front door.

It is a pair of Black Redstarts and what a messy pair they are...

From the state of the nest it looks like you couldn't get much more in there let alone lay and hatch chicks... We wait in anticipation!

On a slightly different note, last night (according to the nocturnal Elizabeth) we had a magnificent storm at around 4:00 in the morning... As always she had the photographic proof...

This one was taken looking out of our front door...

Can you see what it is yet?

Yes, it's a Black Redstart sheltering from the storm.

It is a Black Redstart chick... probably wondering what was happening!!

The nest has got messy...
because the chicks have pushed nest material out to make room for themselves..

And have you seen the size of the hailstones that fell on Vouvray!!
No sparkly this year, I'll warrant!!
They'd've flattened this little chick!!

Thanks Tim. Did not think about it that way round.
