If you are our age and watched a certain film, circa 1967, you may recognise the post title..
It came to my mind when we drove past the fields to the south of Faye la Vineuse the other day...
Rows of plastic as far as the eye could see...
Whilst we would prefer to see green fields or crops waving in the breeze, we can't deny that this is a very successful way to grow melons commercially in this region.
Also we admire the driver of the machine which laid down the rows of the stuff... the machine itself did three rows at a time.
We'll leave it to you to work out how many "ups" and "downs" of the field that took him!!

Makes our "maggot" seem a bit tame that does...
but, coming from "Naarrrfolk"...
the sight isn't exactly new to me...
even if the crop is...
it'll beee carrrots, bor, in Naarrrfolk!
He probably lays those rows using GPS...
and he certainly doesn't do them in the afternoon...
I've driven a tractor laying out plastic sheet rows. It's not as easy as it looks to keep it straight and at the right tension.
For an interesting olefactory experience later in the year, drive down some of these roads and savour the alternating aromas of ripe melon and muck spreading. Very weird.
Great stripes! Almost as good as our lawn (!)
We did see the tractor with machine laying 4 rows at a time. Bet it is hard to keep straight!!
