The forecast wasn't brilliant but it was still fine when we'd finished lunch so we set off, with waterproofs "just in case".
From the centre of Chambon we walked up the quaintly named Rue du Terrier Blanc (D365), giving us good views back to the village and surrounding countryside.
After roughly 850m we reached the path on our right, leading into the woods - and what a magical place!
Although many of the leaves had only just started turning, the colours were superb..
And although by this time it was raining, nothing could dampen the spirits...
There was so much to see and such varied scenery as we walked. One minute we were in mixed woodland and the next we were passing a small vineyard...
And a hunter getting equipped for his sport. You can perhaps make out one of his three dogs to the left....
These two walked ahead putting the world to rights...
The route took us through the Bois de la Forge and past the Etang de la Forge.
Leaving the woodland behind us it was a down hill walk back to the village and the car, a walk of about 5km in total.
We can only thank Jim and Pauline for introducing us to this wonderful place - and for the delicious lunch Pauline had prepared for us.
Pauline, your soup would win prizes!!

We've joined in with a randonnee around Chambon but I don't remember the etang. We'll look out for it next time...
