A Wheelbarrow Tale...

That could save you money!

Elizabeth, as regular readers know, moves around the garden at great speed, however two days ago she went that fast she had a blowout on the wheelbarrow tyre. Yes a blowout! I thought is was a hunter firing his shotgun!

This was the damage

As we use the barrow on a daily basis we needed a new tyre and tube... Internet search!

No, not at that price. Delivery was €9 on top of that. plus we also needed a tube!!! I could buy the same tyre and tube on UK EBay for £5 plus £3 UK delivery!!

We could buy a new barrow for €39, so that is what we set off to do. A trip down to Leroy Merlin, who it turned out, also had a tyre and tube for €26.90.

On inspection their €39 euro barrows were of poor quality, very thin and dinted. So we went to our favourite store! Brico Depot were they had barrows for €44

To our surprise they sold the barrows as "Build a Barrow" and lo and behold, a wheel with a tyre of the correct size was on sale at €9.

Better still when I took it to the pay booth it was scanned at €8.50...

Unfortunately for me the spindle was a different length (40 mm shorted than ours although the same diameter.) It was no problem though to remove the tyre and refit it.

So we have a new tyre and a repaired wheelbarrow for €8.50. (and a spare wheel)

I have also introduced a garden speed limit to prevent another blowout! With heavy penalties Elizabeth!

Footnote.

Today we have reached another blog milestone in that this will be our 1000 post.
Many thanks to all our readers.

Colin....
surely you have realised...
with the saga of broken gardening equipment...
that Elizabeth is hoping to get you an endless supply of NEW equipment...
by becoming a tester for "Gardening WHICH"!!
Either that...
or she is hoping that you will ban her from using any of the equipment...
thereby giving her much more time to make all those lovely craft things.

Congratulations!
Firstly on finding and adapting a wheel at a bargain price but also for achieving the big 1000. Well done.
Keep up the good work x
