Will it fit?

No; it wouldn't!

We'd been up to Leclerc at Chinon and made an impulse purchase of a 12 drawer unit for me to keep my sewing bits and pieces in - neatly (!)..

We got back to the car with it and immediately realised we had a problem. How on earth were we to get a twelve drawer unit in the back of a 2CV? We spent a few minutes pondering; upright/ seat forward/ lying across the back seat...Would it?

Well it wouldn't! So when we could regain some modicum of control, having laughed so much at our predicament we did what all self-respecting 2CV owners would have done..

We rolled back the roof and Colin passed the unit in through the top... More laughter.... As soon as the unit was tilted, the drawers fell out. It was like a sketch from The Two Ronnies!

BUT... problem solved. We drove safely home and the unit is now filled with sewing essentials...

Could have done with a second one really.....    Only joking!!

For emergencies such as this...
take out rear seat and put it back in....
the other way around and on its nose...
ie: with the underside up against the backs of the front seats.
This almost empties the back.

The alternative is to remove the front passenger seat....
and place that face down....
with its back against the rear seat...
that creates a full length space that the 12-draw unit would fit in...
after all, it isn't large by 2CV standards.

Next time you are over I'll show you the sideboard I got in Magrat [the red one]....
it involved removing rear and passenger seat...
and unbolting the hood/boot lid support bar...
sliding sideboard in upside down...
doing up said boot lid/hood support bar and "carfully" placing the seats back in on top... and then refastening the hood.

Sing the following to the tune of Alice's Restaurant...
"You can get anything you want...
in the back of a Two-cee-vee!!
'Cept Alice!!"

Given that a friend of ours brought an entire fitted kitchen, flat-packed, from Germany to Leeds in a 2CV, a little unit like that (nice one) shouldn't be any trouble... the table went on the roof with its legs in the air. Remember the Antiques Road Show, with the grandfather clock, that would be about the same size. P.s. Tim got that sideboard at Oxfam. Pauline

The more drawers you have, the more you need.....you should definitely go gack for another set....maybe in the other car!

I agree with Jean. I don't think Colin would have stopped at one set of drawers to rack his tools. Now you know that they fit...
