With food at a premium in this cold weather some of our garden birds have taken to trying to be like other species in order to get at the food. Last month we had the goldfinch who thought she was a Blue-tit now its the turn of the blackbirds...
The blackbirds have developed a love of the apples we have been putting out. It appears to be generally the females who do all the eating. The poor males never get a look in. I am sure it must be where the term Hen-Pecked came from: if the male goes anywhere near the food he gets ruthlessly attacked and pecked. In a show of male support I even put some halved apples in a separate place but she soon had these covered to. (Note; Don't want to come back as a male blackbird)
I digress: despite putting plenty of halved apples out on the ground one female has insisted throughout the day that she will perform aerobatics, typical female showing off... Absolutely fabulous... So enjoy aerobatics on the branch and string...
Remarkably she managed to eat most of the apples; the poor blue-tits didn't.
As for the male, in the heat of the battle he grabbed half an apple in his beak, flew to the corner of the garden and managed to enjoy it in peace.

Nice photos! Almost like a little film.
I like the way the Goldfinches are just ignoring her.
Fantastic photos. We tried the apple and the bluetits though it was great, no sign of a black cap! We had a pair of visiting crows yesterday, kept shooing them off as they were just stealing all the food. Thankfully they have not come back today. Diane
That's a great series of pix... it's that penultimate pic where she's looking directly at you and saying "Enough with the papparazi!" and then in the next pic... "OOOPS!" I keep using the scroll wheel on the mouse just to get the sequence at speed... and it works!
The WV has given her a name... "Ophila"
We have a lesser spotted woodpecker who hogs all the nuts...she spreads her wings out if any other bird even tries to get close.
I could watch them all day.

Awful but is it true?? We checked out "Not waving but drowning" and got quite a shock to read what we had read recently on your blog "Secretly Skint" Sorry but we don't like that sort of thing... Honest blogging please.
In which case, read my latest post.
The reason I stopped writing that blog was that it was deeply personal, dealing with LB's illness.
There was a blog being written at the time writing about other French blogs, which meant that it was only a matter of time before he got to writing about mine, and as it was so personal, I didn't want to be identified.
