Basking Caterpillar

As if to make up for its late arrival, summer is now throwing all it's got at us!!

With temperatures of 29C, it seems it was even too warm for this caterpillar to budge when Colin was up in the cherry tree picking yet more of its fruit.

We think it could be the caterpillar of a Mullein moth but we are very willing to be corrected.

It's too hot to argue!!

Not the Mullein Moth...
terribly similar though...
same colouration, but twin black spots on a yellow background on the back...
they've decimated the Mulleins around here.
One in our garden was totally destroyed...
after I'd carefully avoided it with the mower because I thought it would make a nice feature...
I can hear them sniggering!

No eye deer what this one is though...
what it is NOT is a Magpie Moth...
nor is it a Clouded Magpie...
both of which have the same colourways but different patterns.

Could you ask the summer not to chuck everything too soon and save a bit for us next week, please .....?!
