The old and the new!

This is a great old statue in the mairie courtyard at Angles sur l'Anglin.

We think it is a statue of Saint Joseph with a child.

What we found such a shame was the new backdrop of concrete blocks!

I suspect the saint is somebody like de la Salle. The child is holding a book and standing on a globe. I think there is an education connection or similar. I did a cursory search on Google but can't find any reference to a de la Salle school in Angles though.

Susan, Joseph is set in stone - on the base. The first De La Salle foundation in England was Saint Joseph's College in Clapham.
