As many of our reader know the Pont Mathilde in Rouen has been closed since October 2012. Well, the good news is that, according to the internet, it reopened to traffic on the 26th August. We will let you know when we have been across it.
However when we were looking for a progress report we came across this photovideo. If you have any interest in heavy engineering it is well worth watching.
All we can say is what an incredible job.

We don't use the Pont Mathilde in Rouen...
we go into Rouen and thro' the tunnel.
Keeps you on the A28 and is quick and easy....
quicker than Pont Mathilde...
and way quicker than the nasty outside route thro' the marshalling yards and industry!
Straight in via the two Quevillies...
aim for the town centre and turn right IMMEDIATELY before the river...
go along the waterfront [marvellous views of the Cathedral]....
after the third crossroads get ready to bear right before a road crosses over you...
takes you down hill and then back up the spiral onto that road....
then it is straight thro' the tunnel and aim for La Manche.
And may the journey pass safely...
without undue stress...
and...
"get you to the church on time!!"

I think that is the Pont Mathilde, Tim.
Looking at the map I see it is!!
Good job the tanker wasn't actually in the tunnel!!
C&E... apologies for the first comment...
trying to teach you to suck eggs!!
I just go where Pauline commands...
I used to argue...
but now I go right...
"NO, the other right!"
or left...
"NO, the other left!"
when told....

most of the time!!
We had so many near misses and moments of terror and aggravation, not to mention getting lost, that we now leave the motorway north of Rouen and make a detour on the ring road round Yvetôt, crossing the river via the Pont de Brotonne. We then rejoin the motorway south of Rouen with our nreves and tempers intact.
It adds a few minutes to the journey but there's a very nice lay-by where we can stop well off the road to have a picnic and take Lulu for a good walk in the woods. Then there's a very convenient Le Clerc supermarket where we can fill up with very cheap fuel and even......have a McDonald's if we're desperate!
We can confirm that the Pont is now open again. We have tried ALL other routes around and through Rouen and there is NO doubt that this is the quickest and most direct route. Still love the way it was repaired on the video. "Have 113mtrs of bridge, will travel!!)
Wishing you both all the very best for tomorrow.
