A bakers dozen.... Goldfinches that is.

Tim one of our regular followers commented on Monday's blog and asked if our Niger seed feeder was one with slots. The answer is no, its the cheapest of the cheap seed feeder from Wilko. We did look at the slotted variety in a posh garden centre but it was +£30 so it stayed on the shelf...

Yesterday we found out how cheap it really was as it deposited 500 grams of Niger seeds out of the bottom in less than half an hour. Basically with the weight of the Goldfinches landing on the three feeding trays/perches they had become loose as they were only clipped to the feeder main tube. This created a gap through which all the seeds dropped at a great rate. The problem was soon repaired with a tube of clear silcone... I siliconed all three feeders back on; problem solved.

The 500 grams of spilt seeds did not go to waste either, they were soon found by the goldfinches. Heads down boys and girls...

However they even fell out over eating them on the ground...

The repaired feeder back in operation...
