Winter's Coming!

Two things conspired today which lead to me starting a new "hobby"...

First the weather took a turn for the worse and it was a day for doing something indoors and second, a present arrived for me from Colin....

Jean and Nick had recently been kind enough to give me some rough blocks of tuffeau, so that I could have a go at carving and I couldn't wait to get started!...

The block was easy enough to cut using a wood saw..

A second cut,

and I had just the piece I needed to try to recreate something like this

I did say "something like"! and here he is!

Tomorrow?? Michelangelo's David?!

Pretty good for a first attempt I say, but then again I am biased...

Rat update.

Last night ALL the Raticide was gone in less than 1½ hours... It has been restocked and the camera reset...

Wow! That is a fantastic first effort. I'm really impressed. What fun you'll have (and what a lovely mess -- I know what tuffeau dust is like).

Wonderful! I knew you could do it.
We thought Colin was going to give you a few of his old chisels, but what a fantastic gift. Bravo...

Now all you have to do is....
make another like it...
and put them on the gate pillars!!
It looks wonderful...
but don't bother trying to do Davis....
bits fall off!!

And, talking of bits...
that isn't the first rat...
he's got bits, if you know what I mean!!
