Opération Gros Volume...

Colin will be on his own this next week as I have to return to the UK for a few days, so today when we went shopping it was with this in mind.

We bought two sides of salmon.....

and a piece of cod

plus these two pork roasts...

Every now and then the supermarkets do these "Opération Gros Volume" and if you've room in the freezer it's certainly the way to shop.

But I'm sorry Colin, despite what you are thinking, these beauties are now ready to go in the freezer...

though as you can see, I've left one piece of salmon out for you!

Out of interest, this little lot cost us around 43€ and will make around 16 to 18 meals for both of us, working out at current exchange rates at roughly £2.00 for a meal for two.

Not bad really and the quality is excellent!

It makes sense to shop and freeze that way. Sometimes I am still prone to shop and prepare as though I am still feeding a family of four, or even five or six with partners. This means that left-overs can last for a while and are never as tasty as first time round.

Part of the problem is that my containers are the wrong size for two people. Maybe I can sneak some new, smaller ones past Tim, despite my vow to have a clear out. Trouble is you need to replace one large with two smaller ones...

Hope you have a safe journey back to the UK, Elizabeth.

Thanks, Gaynor, though I'm not particularly looking forward to the drive up from Stansted tonight!
