Cupboard Love...

The farmer who grew sunflowers in the field next to us didn't harvest them until late last week, as we mentioned here. Consequently hundreds of birds had been quick to establish this field as a jolly good place to dine. Our paltry offerings went largely untouched.

Well what self-respecting bird could resist a field full of these?

especially when they are ripe and ready...

Now that the crop is harvested and the field has been ploughed and harrowed, the birds have had their supply of ready meals taken from them at one fell swoop.

Suddenly our bird table and feeders have become desirable places to see and be seen.

Today we woke to a garden teeming with chaffinch, goldfinch, blue-tits and great-tits to name a few. The tops of the poplars made perfect perches for them..

We know it's only cupboard love but it is lovely to have them back in such numbers!

If you're like me, you could sit and watch them for hours on end! P.
