Up On the Roof.....

We getting to the time of year when the evenings feel decidedly chilly and thoughts turn to lighting the fire...

For safety's sake the chimney needs to be swept first and this year Colin went self-sufficient on this score. This meant starting from scratch by making a roof ladder.

After another 'Depannage' experience (our third in a week), we paid a visit to Brico Depot. Now that's always a delight, if only from the 'people watching' point of view.  We never cease to wonder at the amount of 'stuff' people cram into their cars or trailers. We bought the wood needed to make the ladder and by evening it was ready for service.

Colin was up on the roof yesterday with rods and brushes at the ready, when the heavens opened and he was forced to abandon ship (mixed metaphor apologies).

Fortunately second time around the showers held off ...

Soon he was finished and jettisoning the rods...

Then it was on with the cowl...

And back down to earth..

Another good job done, Colin!

As Colin has done it, who then has given you the compulsory certificate that it has been done for the insurance... check your conditions... it is in the small print of ours [with MMA].
And it is a good job he wasn't doing it here this afternoon... seven millimetres between 1PM and 5PM! WET!!!

Tim's a bit worried that the roof ladders don't meet!

Is your sweep available for higher ;o)

Tim has said exactly what I was going to say. What about the certificate? Our insurance company would not accept that we had done our own. Take care Diane

Someone should have at least held the ladder for Colin. No matter how professional a person is when it comes to working on the roof, he should always be accompanied by someone up there or someone down there. Anyway, good job, Colin!

You're certainly right about that, Willene. I remembered when I was young, the roof was my imaginary hideout to escape from adults, you know. Hehe! Now, that I'm a grown man, I found out that roof isn't really a playground. :P It serves a very utilitarian purpose.

Willene has a point. You should have someone with you when you climb on the roof. It’s not just for your safety, but the work will go much easier and faster if there’s someone to help you up there.
