Signs Jim, but not as we know them....

We went out this afternoon to explore some of the surrounding villages. (Not before time I might add). Today's destination was St Gervais-les-Trois-Clochers. More about St Gervais will feature in a future blog.

On our return journey we decided to go the back way via Saint-Christophe which was fine. We then followed the signs to Faye-la-Vineuse where we had been previously until we came across this junction....

Having read Jim's blog on Loire Valley Experiences about signs the day before, I could not resist this one. Thanks Jim!

The two signs were telling me where I had come from, but nothing showing the left or right turns ahead.

So which way was Faye-la-Vineuse??  Well I thought left and thought completely wrong..

In the end, after several kilometres, with signs to places neither of us had heard of, we gave up and put the sat nav on.. What a let down and we were only 10k from home...

We really need to get out and about more!!!

Pauline and I have taken to carrying the necessary "Blue" IGN maps with us for trips out [or at the very lease the relative ones for Indre-et-Loire/Brenne/Vienne when we go out... for this very reason.
But.... the occasional diversion down roads you haven't seen before are frequently fun, informative [often] and, unless in a tearing hurry, a good way of seeing the countryside around here.
St. Christophe must be a VERY important place to be signposted from both directions... most places seem to be signed facing the nearest commune centre in the same manner as the lieu-dits.

I have gained a lot of my 'local knowledge' by getting lost. We also now venture up any road we come across that we have not explored. Great for info. for website. We have covered a lot of the area in the 3+ years we have been here.
