We've cracked it!

After our disappointment at losing all our hazelnuts to the woodpecker, we are pleased to be able to report that our unidentified twig...

...has produced a harvest of walnuts! Yes, folks, this is the entire crop! Pretty good for a twig, though, isn't it?

Unfortunately the tree we at first thought was a walnut has not produced a single one! So now we wonder if it actually IS a walnut. Can anyone help us identify it please?

We would like to offer a walnut to the person who solves the mystery for us - but we've eaten them... Jolly good they were, too!

I have no idea what it is but it's a very nice tree !!
Well done on the walnut harvest - that's pretty good for a single twig. We get ours as windfalls from the numerous trees around the village - if there are any left by the time we get there, that is.

Our hazel nut tree usually produces several bucket loads of nuts, but this year there was not one. I suspect the lack of rain from the end of March until the middle of July had something to do with it. No woodpeckers in our tree though we usually get a dormouse that has quite a good appetite. Would not like to be certain what that tree is!! Diane

I'm not sure what your tree is. Our neighbouring plot in LP-P has an enormous walnut tree. Lots land on our garden, but you can bet that by the time we arrive Towards the end of October every windfall will have been squirrelled away!
