Leylandii recycled

We are always on the lookout for ways to use the wood we have stacked up since cutting down the leylandii which used to grow across the front of the house. One idea was to build a bird house.

This started last year, when Colin drilled the first hole into the section of log.....

Then I took over to hollow it out

Over the last couple of days the finishing touches have been added

And today Colin put it in place up one of the poplar trees at the bottom of the garden.

It looks a very secure residence for some lucky little bird

So now we await the first residents.... hopefully!

The Kingfisher

In French folklore the Kingfisher is the symbol of harmony in families....It is also said to give the power of beauty to women who wear its feathers..

This impressive Kingfisher adorns the bank of the River Ribble in Lancashire..

Pity it doesn't seem to bring harmony to the weather in that part of the world! This one's probably waiting for the river to rise so he needn't leave his perch in order to fish.

Doesn't look as if he'll have long to wait....

Following the UK weather forecast (as we do), Lancashire seems to attract rain (and plenty of it) on a daily basis! Lucky Kingfisher...
