Grande Vente Emmaus 2016

Today was the start of the three day Grande Vente Emmaus, at Chatellerault's Parc d'Expo...

Driving through the town took some pictures of the Vienne, swollen with the recent rainfall..

Whatever this sign said, it was pretty much useless today....

You can see from the line of debris just how high the flood waters had been...

The Grande Vente proved as interesting as ever and in addition to our purchases we bumped into Gaynor doing equally well with her 'finds'.

Tim, where were you??

Emmaus Grande Vente

Yesterday we went along to the...

What did we buy...

Six brandy glasses and a rather nice little dish!! Total cost €1.30

And

Yards and yards of mainly white 'course' cotton fabric to make medieval costumes... Total cost €17

Didn't we do well!!!

Following on from yesterday...

One reason we were short on storage is that we keep attending the twice a year 'Grande Vente Emmaus' in Chatellerault. It was only last week that Elizabeth said "there must be another one due soon"

This morning on our weekly shopping trip, the signs were out!! Surprisingly it was this weekend and we had missed the first day. 'Wot no notice' Elizabeth was on the point of tears. I was reluctant to go but with my arm up my back and my wife in such a state, what could I do...

We entered and were given the requisite plastic bag each...

We managed to get away reasonably with the following...

including a piece of Limoges porcelain...

And with the pocket only €2.50 lighter!

(Unless, of course, we need another cupboard to house it in!!!)

Grande Vente Emmaus...

We'd noticed the signs last week and made a mental note to go today to the Grande Vente Emmaus, at Chatellerault. Against the odds we remembered and took a trip down.

This is what Colin would like to have purchased...
or the tall object in the middle here....

However, sense prevailed and this is what we bought..
Eight matching glass serving dishes, a glass cake stand, a cut glass serving dish and a mixing bowl and a fluted loose bottomed flan dish - all for the princely sum of €8.30. From there we went to the book and clothing hall and lost ourselves for an hour or so!

Everything is sold by weight; €2 per kilo for general bric-a-brac; €2.50 for books and €3 for clothing

The sale continues over the weekend at the Parc d'Expo, in Chatellerault.
