Looking at our three cherry trees and listening to the loud hum when you approach them, it is looking like it could be a good year.
These two are eating cherries
This one is a sour cherry.
Oh dear all that stoning... better get my mother over again!!
On a different note, despite a few cracks in the wood, we appear to have two holes used in our bee hotel. Just after taking the photograph another bee popped out of a hole. It looks like it could be full in no time.
Watch this space...

A good year for cherries?

Bee Hotel
We have noticed since we have been in Braye that every summer our window drainage holes get blocked up with mud. The culprits are probably a type of Mason Bee. Susan from Days on the Claise wrote about them here.
Following a suggestion from Tim to drill some holes in our Bird nesting box, I decided to experiment with some pieces of the old Leylandii.
My first attempt has holes of 8 and 10mm. Drilling single holes which don't intersect was a major problem.
Not sure about this site as it faces north whilst advice on the subject says they should be in full sun. However our window drain holes that are used every year face north!!! So I may leave it and see how it does.
The second attempt has 10mm holes only but they are deeper, at about 12cm.
This site should keep it dry, which is important and faces south so it gets plenty of warm sun.
We will see how many get used, if any.
