The crowds at Chinon for the Medieval Market, 4th August 2012.
As always it was a great day and this year we were accompanied by our friends Tim and Gaynor.

Chinon's Marche Medieval 2012
We met up with Tim and Gaynor yesterday to visit the Marche Medieval at Chinon.
At first sight it looked quieter than last year but as we made our way through the streets, it was obvious how popular an event it is.
Stallholders and members of the public alike dressed in medieval costume. We snapped this pair having a break by the roadside...
We were serenaded by minstrals...
So from big men to tall people...

And for those in need of a little sustenance, there was spit roast of beef, lamb or pork.
everyone was having a good time... And judging by the noise from this group, we suspect the bottle label "eau de source" does not accurately describe its contents!
The old wine caves, within the rock on which the Fortress stands, were open to the public and quite fascinating. They housed a series of 'bottle sculptures' which had obviously been there, gathering dust, for some time.
At the far end of the caves were stalls where artisans in a variety of crafts were selling their wares.
So much to see and take in! And however often we go to Chinon it always holds an element of surprise for us, even in the hustle and bustle of the Marche Medieval.
