I'm afraid these bugs are not my favourites by a long way. They produce a foul smelling liquid from the thorax as a defence mechanism and unfortunately I've been on the receiving end and had a severe reaction to the stuff! Not a pleasant experience!

Not Quite Shielded Enough!
Caught in the act! Two Shield Bugs (Pentatomoidea) mating among the cherries..
I'm afraid these bugs are not my favourites by a long way. They produce a foul smelling liquid from the thorax as a defence mechanism and unfortunately I've been on the receiving end and had a severe reaction to the stuff! Not a pleasant experience!

ReplyDeleteThe only time I've ever noticed a smell from them is when they commit suicide in the halogen uplighters... then they really do live up to the American name of stinkbugs!!
