Good Weather for Moss!

The exceptional rainfall over the past year has led to failed crops and ruined gardens but whilst out walking we've noticed one group of plants which has certainly not suffered....

Mosses have almost taken over in some areas of woodland. It's fascinating forms drape over the branches....

Trunks of trees take on a distinctly green tinge..

The woodland is under a blanket of the stuff!

And these trees have mossy leg warmers!

Fascinating as it is, let's hope there's less moss and more sun  in 2013!

  1. They look really cozy - should they be trunk warmers?

  2. The French for moss is mousse.
In the first week of owning our house some cold-callers knocked on the door and asked if we would like the mousse removing from our roof. My French vocabulary didn't extend to moss so I was really confused.
