Grasshopper ?

Following on from the bug theme, we photographed this specimen enjoying our China Asters.

Speckled Bush-cricket Leptophyes puntatissima. (Corrected from the Short-winged Conehead: Thanks Susan)





Normally found in gardens, It is the first one we have noticed.

We like the Kukri knife shaped ovipositor!! Its a good job its not ten times larger...

  1. I'm not convinced this is a Short-winged Conehead. I think it is a Speckled Bush-cricket Leptophyes puntatissima. Check out the thicker ovipositor, which I think matches better. Habitat matches better too.

    1. I've been amazed how long they last indoors, even in the hot weather. They've been a real delight and I will certainly grow them again next year.
