Our First Brocante of 2012

This afternoon we visited our first Brocante of the year, and it did not disappoint. It was held in the lovely little village of Marigny Marmande, which is only about 7 km from Braye.

Such was the range of goods on offer, I was tempted to start our Christmas shopping early...

But I refrained!

As usual at these events, the turnout was good and the atmosphere was enhanced by the undeniably French piped music playing loudly all around the village.

There was something for everyone, young or old...

And when the hunger pangs kicked in, there were generous helpings of Poule au Pot served at midday. This photo was taken at half past three; so no rush over lunch then...

We maintained our unbroken record of no purchases but we were sorely tempted...

Once again, we showed great restraint.... and unparalleled cowardice!

  1. I would have struggled to resist the covered dish in your last photo, with the outrageous pink floral decorations. You must have been very strong willed to come away empty handed. J.

    1. Yes; You've probably seen it at least five times over the last couple of years!!

  4. You must have different music up your way. The piped music here is more often than not distinctly 70s & 80s and distinctly American. I'm afraid brocantes try my patience and boredom threshold to the limit.

    1. Ah but Susan, there is always the chance you might find that fabulous piece of crockery, furniture or kitchen equipment hiding under all the .... rubbish !! Friends of ours have virtually furnished their house with v-g finds and it's amazing stuff. She has a better nose than mine for sniffing out good things - all I ever see is .... rubbish !!
I must admit that when we are on holiday and therefore have nothing better to do they pass a pleasant hour or so of people watching with the opportunity for a barquette of frites !!

  5. What restraint you have! I have to go empty-handed otherwise I'd come back with tat which amuses me, like Nana Mouskouri albums or old tills.
